180 Degree Paris Vistas. “During a 2009 sabbatical in Paris, I created a series of Photo Panorama Studies of several iconic, but somewhat less well known urban spaces in Paris. I see these studies as ‘photographic sketches,’ as opposed to formalist, refined ‘portraits’ of the cityscape. They are generated in Photoshop by merging a series of 5 to 8 sequential photos, and there is an evocative sense to them with their undulating and seemingly organic, though digitally-generated edges… almost like a ‘thought bubble’ beginning to materialize. I think these transitory visual qualities offer a kind of ‘poetic suggestion’ that these vistas are still forming and unfinished… as though they may yet continue to grow in scope.

This image captures a full 180 degree view of ‘Place des Victoires,’ which I think clearly reveals its perfectly circular configuration. It may not have the same elegance as ‘Place de la Concorde’ nor the grandeur of ‘Place Vendôme,’ but it is still glorious and quintessentially Parisian even in its somewhat gritty and faded beauty.”
