PROJECT IN PLANNING
I’ve long thought that the graphic, camouflage-like bark pattern of London Plane Trees looks so much like a paint-by-number painting that has come to life. When I was about 9, a family member gave me a paint-by-number set with images of trees in a forest. So this is my take on what a paint-by-number painting would look like if it slipped through the looking glass into the real world.
This installation is to be created in a stand of London Plane trees by applying white vinyl adhesive numerals to the bark of each tree. The numerals will be carefully removed at the close of the installation which I envision being in place for approximately one month.
A class of elementary school children are being invited to take part in applying the numerals to the lower levels of each tree trunk. The intention is to offer children a unique and fun way to engage with nature, while also adding an interactive element to the project.
